Governor is the constitutional head of the state and is appointed by the President of India on the recommendation of the central government of that time for a period of five years. Each of the 29 states is headed by the governor while union territories of Andaman Nicobar, Delhi and Puducherry are headed by lieutenant governors. The other four union territories – Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Lakshadweep are governed by an administrator.
